Building a LINAC Cancer Bunker Beneath a Live Hospital
Roskerry delivered the reinforced concrete basement for a new LINAC cancer treatment bunker, built beneath the fully operational HCA Healthcare hospital on Harley Street.
LINAC suites are some of the most demanding structures in construction. The bunker needed thick, radiation shielded concrete walls, floors and roof slabs, all built to extremely tight tolerances, without disrupting a single day of hospital operations above.
The scope
Basement excavation, underpinning, RC foundations, bunker walls, base and roof slabs, high density reinforcement, structural steel and waterproofing, all self-delivered by Roskerry.
The challenge
Building a radiation shielded structure below ground, on a tight central London site, with zero disruption to patients or clinical operations.
